AkzoNobel creates operational excellence using CANEA

CANEA ONE fulfilled the tough demands on document- process- and workflow management set up by one of the world’s leading companies within paint, with well-known brands such as Nordsjö, Cuprinol and Sadolin.

AkzoNobel Decorative Coatings and Industrial Coatings in Malmoe have since 2010 successfully used CANEA ONE as a support, to create a more available and up to date management system as well as to drive process improvement.

Background and needs

Within AkzoNobel it is absolutely critical to fulfill customer requirements on quality and environment. Therefore an effective and user-friendly business management system is one of the most important pieces to maintain success.

To AkzoNobel in Malmoe it meant:

  • An up to date system with constant development and improvements.
  • Creating governance and quality assurance.
  • Increase accessibility to the management system for all employees.
  • Co-ordinate all document and workflow management in one single solution.

Stina Enesjö, Business Excellence Manager inom AkzoNobel Decorative Coatings, concludes: ”Unfortunately we had got ourselves into a situation where map and reality no longer were the same. The ways of working had developed within our organization, but the documented way of working did not follow and was not well known amongst the co-workers. We therefore had to look at both the content of the management system and the tools supporting.”

Implementation

The cooperation began with modeling and defining the most important processes. With these premises the management system was structured and configured gradually into CANEA Document (the document management system within CANEA ONE). It was important to create a user friendly environment with easy searching and navigation, as many of the employees do not use computers as a daily work tool.

Workflow management was the next step in the implementation and AkzoNobel now has an easier and faster way to both register, execute and monitor administrative processes. CANEA Workflow can be configured depending on the specific workflows, rules and business logic. AkzoNobel now has the possibility to gradually deploy more and more processes using CANEA Workflow, without changing platform or do expensive development work.

In her role as a VLS-coordinator, Alexandra Lindell coordinates, supports and develops the management system, and now she experiences that the organization is supported in a clear and effective way:"Both responsible for the management system and the employees have had to make efforts, but now we have a natural and continuous way of working with environment-, safety- and quality questions within the limits for the integrated management system. It feels safe to have CANEA as a partner. They have shown stability as a supplier and they give us the support and maintenance we need, in a cost effective way. This feels very good for the future."

Benefits

"After the initial work together with CANEAs’ consultants we have proceeded according to plan and configured CANEA Framework ourselves, after our specific prerequisites. In the future we will probably use more and more options within this solution. For example we see good opportunities to use more types of documents and execute even more workflows. There are no actual limitations. To us CANEA Framework is the natural platform for our management system." concludes Stina Enesjö.
